Back in early December of 2019, my father entered into your care on respite when he broke his ankle. Immediately, Dad was expressing how impressed he was and had nothing but praises and thankfulness for Robin and the staff for how caring they have been towards him and the other patrons. At that time, his intentions of staying was for approximately 6 weeks, until his ankle healed.

Each resident has an individual suite to personally furnish with comforts from home. Interests & Activities At Avonlea we create a loving, warm and homely atmosphere where each person is supported to experience each moment richly. My Mother is 88 years old and has been a Widower for over 17 years and is very independent. She was used to living alone and didn't take kindly to the fact that she was no longer capable of caring for herself. However over the last couple of years she has come to realise that she needs somebody there at all times of the day and night to care for her, and this is what she gets at Avonlea. I have always found the staff to be approachable, friendly and continually keep me updated regarding mums health.

We really like the idea of there only being 11 in the Aroha unit, it really seems to be more like a family than an institution.

It was plain to see that Peter felt very comfortable with you all and that you were one big family. Our professional staff are trained in proper medication administration to ensure quality care for your loved one. If needed, we communicate and coordinate care with physicians, help to schedule appointments, and order medications for our residents. Our registered nurse performs monthly wellness checks on all residents and communicates any concerns with our administrator. Having an on-call RN provides another level of security for our residents. A wide variety of activities are tailored to the interests of Avonlea residents.

Many of our caregivers have personal experience in caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's or various other needs. The lessons learned are reflected in Avonlea's care and philosophy. During Jessie's last days when her health was failing, the care provided by your staff was exceptional.

Our facility is a bungalow style allowing for easy wheelchair access and mobility. We have an outdoor patio and garden that the residents can access on their own during warm months. A fully qualified nurse practitioner visits us once every three weeks. Our Activity Coordinator organizes group activities or one on one activities.

As I said I was reluctant to move Dad; now I think it is the best thing that could have happened. I have been particularly impressed by the level of communication from the staff about Dad and the fact that they have taken the time to get to know him and what to do to keep him happy. We are full fee paying clients and I believe we get good value for money at Avonlea. We provide 24 hour Registered Nursing cover for our Hospital care home as well as our Dementia care homes. The Board has initiated a number of measures to try to attract new residents. These measures have included paid advertising on radio and on Facebook; creation of a website promoting the manor; an up to date pamphlet and a table display.
