In 2012 Keith Sargent was looking for a safe and nurturing placement for his mom, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. After not finding what he felt she deserved, he decided to create Avonlea for her and other individuals diagnosed with Alzehimer's. A place where not only residents, but family members as well as staff, felt comfortable and welcome.
Our staff makes sure to recognize the needs and independence levels of each resident. Our unique care, paired with our life enrichment activities, aim to make sure our residents are living their best life. We are honored to have you as part of our vibrant and thriving community. We offer assistance with activities of daily living, such as medication management, transportation and personal care. Service is available 24/7, and AvonLea ensures that you or your loved one receive care in a comfortable and engaging environment. Those attending were the Manor’s Board, RM’s of Bratts Lake, Terell, Redburn, Elmsthrope and Caledonia; Villages of Avonlea, and Briercrest. Avonlea Rest Home - Dementia Care NZ
Music is a large part of our daily life, providing a soundtrack to our days. Residents unwind to tranquil tunes, sing along to familiar songs, or dance to the melodies. I am especially grateful to Robin and the staff for setting a standard within the Manor that puts the residents first, and keeps their families at ease by providing open communication. Thank you Robin for always coming up with excellent options to ensure Dad’s stay is enjoyable, comfortable and that he is content. Even after Dad’s ankle healed, he was and still is, extremely torn with the idea of leaving what he has at the Coteau Range Manor to return back home.
We are paid by our participating communities, therefore our service is offered at no charge to families. Residents and staff spend time together socializing, laughing, crafting, reading, reminiscing, sitting outside, going for walks, and enjoying simple pleasures. Daily activities include "This Day in History", trivia, and reading the Wall Street Journal.

Each afternoon an activity person provides some sort of activity for all the occupants that can catch their interest and challenge them in some way. The concept of small homes ideally suited Jessie, giving her the independence of her own room in a warm, comfortable, modern environment. Mum moved into Avonlea in March 2010, the staff and management of Avonlea made the transition from mums previous retirement home to her new home at Avonlea a very stress free experience for us. Our home is comfortable and homely, with fires to sit beside in the winter and a gorgeous garden to walk through in the summer. She enjoys walking around the gardens, going for outings and the entertainments that are provided each week, especially the musical entertainment.

I had the chance to meet some of the carers and the people that Mum lives with and they are all such a lovely lot. I would have liked to have let them know that I am so appreciative of all they do for Mum - they are precious and very beautiful people. Plans were to attend a number of trade shows in surrounding rural areas this spring but due to COVID-19 this is not possible. It was plain to see that Peter felt very comfortable with you all and that you were one big family. Our professional staff are trained in proper medication administration to ensure quality care for your loved one. If needed, we communicate and coordinate care with physicians, help to schedule appointments, and order medications for our residents. Our registered nurse performs monthly wellness checks on all residents and communicates any concerns with our administrator. Having an on-call RN provides another level of security for our residents. A wide variety of activities are tailored to the interests of Avonlea residents.
This meant that we were often visiting at odd times of the day to fit in round work schedules. No matter what time of the day we visited, and what the routine was for that time slot, the staff were consistently respectful, patient, and fully present with the needs of residents. We met quite a few of your lovely staff who looked after my uncle with such wonderful care and respect. Mum, Dad and I want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. From the moment we arrived at your facility, your staff were amazing.
